This elegantly crafted brass microscope has been redrawn from photographs of the original microscope, which is featured in Gerard Turner's excellent book Collecting Microscopes, a volume in Christie's International Collectors Series of books on antiques.

The body tube is attached to an ornate scroll pillar (limb) through a thumbscrew that allows the tube to swivel around the limb. A single ocular fixed in a brass eyepiece is attached to one end of the body tube, and the screw barrel focusing mechanism occupies the other end. The objective is mounted in a threaded brass housing that acts as the screw mechanism. There is no stage, but beneath the body tube is a planar mirror attached to the wooden base with a brass gimbal. The microscope is accompanied by a wooden storage case and is signed "G. Cramer Groningae Fecit".
